Tried making my own Blooming Onion today, It out pretty good. I took some very small onions, peeled them leaving the root end. Because I cut clear through the onion the first time I turned them so the root end was on top and cut from about a 1\4 inch from the root through to the middle. And spacing the cuts to make petals clear around. I then spread the petals out not to far though. Soak it in water for about 15 minutes. Dredaged them in seasoned flour, then egg wash, then in seasoned bread crumbs. Deep Fried them until done. Pretty Tasty

scratch cooking

I have been trying to decide what exactly kind of cook I am. I have always considered myself a scratch cook, but then I realized I also use modern techinics I don't get up in the morning to start a fire in an old woodburning stove. I do use a micorwave ( usually to thaw things out or to warm things up ) On the other hand I buy flour in 25 lb. bag sugar also. I do use modern recipes always looking for something new. I use a crock-pot usually for the Roast everyother Sunday. Maybe what I should say is I'm a modern scratch cook.

Today, I am making Salsa with some Tomatoes I was given., Hoping for a few pints to use during the winter. Starting to get in the Fall mood.

I made a cheese ball, something my kids didn't ever get until I started making them myself. The kids was still at home when I was given the recipe. Then I made it my own. Not many people we know make theirs with Jalopeno and Pepperoni. Now I need to get back to the Salsa. Enjoy Your Day

I guess I'm getting better at this, at least it hasn't been six months since I was on. I want my blog to be more than just recipes, I love quilts, crafts of all kinds. As of late crafts has been at the top of the to do list. A few years ago we had a Super Saturday. I wasn't able to attend but, I did order some birdhouses to make and put in my yard. After they had spent a summer and winter ( and everything in between they fell apart ) So Don put they down the basement. To make a long story short, we got them out and repaired them painted them and put them out in my garden. The next project was a doormat made out of 2x2s and rope. Don and Tim put it together and it now sits on my front step. Love each time a project gets done!

After four weeks without a car it seems really good to look out the window and see our car sitting out in front of the house.
Interesting where you get a different spin on an old standard, picked up a small box of  Corn Muffin Mix at Wal-mart. When I checked out the cashier told me to take two boxes of the mix and add a can of Cream Corn in place of the moisture and add just one egg. I don't make Corn Muffins very often cause Don isn't a big fan of Corn Bread, but this morning I made them up and with the Cream Corn in the recipe it was to die for. Two reg. size muffins and a piece of Ham was a wonderful breakfast.
We have my brother coming for dinner tonight plan on making Chicken and Dumpling Cassarole I got the recipe off of pinterest. Wondering if I need to make up two or if one will do. Two would be better maybe then we could have leftovers for lunch a day this week. ENJOY YOUR DAY.

Going on day four of not going out of the house, must be some kind of record. There are benefits of not having a car, but right now I can't think of any. Been trying to come down with some kind of gunk but, it can't decide weather I'm sick or not. Did finally get dressed today, I think in high hopes that I might be able to go somewhere. On the upside of not going anywhere, I have been able to do some cooking. I made my version of Salisbury Steak or it might be more of a Hamburger Steak. I mixed up the recipes, maybe I made up a Salisburger Steak. LOL it was good anyway. I put Navy Beans in to soak last night got the ham bone out of the freezer to thaw, this morning we put Ham and Beans in the crockpot to cook. So much to do so little energy to get it done. ENJOY WHATEVER THIS DAY MAY BRING
